duy F/W 2011

Duy blew us away. Designed by Duy Nguyen, this LG Fashion Week debut had a mediocre midday showing, but deserved a house packed to the rafters. British heiress Daphne Guinness served as inspiration, and the collection more than captured her dramatic aesthetic and penchant for dark glamour with a sophisticated gothic palette.

Voluminous furs, mohair and gorgeous French lace were all featured prominently, with layers and draping being key components of the collection. Sheer billowing frocks that clung in all the right places had a darkly ethereal feel to them, while a slouchy purple sweater with deep pockets was instantly desirable. More tailored pieces included a knee-length leopard print jacket with fur detailing at the waist, while a collaboration with Aldo resulted in highly covetable shoes: a leopard print wedge bootie and a towering Victorian boot with side cut-outs made us gasp with delight. Altogether, a stunning sophomore collection and a major departure from his debut showing. Now if only Torontonians would wear something interesting…
